When you start out in business, you soon realise that you have to perform many roles in order to get things done. These include: administration, marketing, IT helpdesk, finance, PR, website, technical help, etc.

Doing everything yourself is fine to begin with, but if you really want to build your business and take it to the next level, you need to learn to let go of some of the routine tasks, to give you time to focus on more important ones.

This is where building a support team comes in. There are many people you can include in your support team. The sooner you build yours, the sooner your business will start to show improved results.

Your support team can assist you in your home life as well as with your business activities. Anyone to whom you can delegate tasks that take up your valuable time each day should be added to your team. If you are in the start-up phase of your business and, consequently, have only a few business tasks to outsource, think about how you can give yourself more time to work on your business by offloading some of your daily housework.

Here are some ideas for support team personnel:

Virtual Assistant
A virtual assistant (VA) is a self employed professional providing administrative, secretarial and creative services on a remote basis. Working from their own fully equipped offices, VA’s work with a variety of different clients helping them in their businesses on an ad hoc, regular or individual project basis.

Outsource your routine administration so that you can focus on product creation and marketing activities to build your business.

Cleaner
This doesn’t need much explanation! Many of you will be starting your online business alongside an existing business that you run, or alongside a ‘normal’ job.

It therefore stands to reason that anytime you currently spend on household chores, is time that, if someone else did it, you could spend working on your business. Getting a cleaner will free up a lot more time than you realise so you can get your business moving.

Childcare
If you have children, of any age, you realise how distracting they can be and it is difficult to run a business and look after them at the same time. This is why having good childcare is essential to your success.

Even if it is only a few hours a week, it is something that you need to look at quickly.

Who do you need on your support team?
